Note
Before you connect your ENCORE to the mains supply, please follow the sequence outlined below.
Ethernet¶
Connect your ENCORE to your router with the Ethernet cable provided, or a longer one that is known to be working if required.
Ensure that the cable is fully connected both at the ENCORE and router ends.
Ensure your router is switched on.

Loudspeakers (M6 Encore 225 and M8 Encore 500 only)¶
Connecting your loudspeakers to your M6 ENCORE 225 and M8 Encore 500 is a straightforward procedure.
Ensure that the positive terminals (Normally RED in colour and marked with a positive/plus sign) on both the ENCORE and your loudspeakers are connected together with the same cable, that it is not frayed, or have any loose strands hanging from the cable.
Warning
No stray cables should be left touching the ENCORE’S metalwork or come into contact with other terminals.
If they do, it is imperative that they are removed before the ENCORE is plugged into the mains supply.
Ensure cables are secured tightly on both ends.
Do the same with the negative terminals (Normally BLACK in colour and marked and marked with a negative/minus sign)
Make sure that the RIGHT CHANNEL OUTPUTS on the ENCORE are connected to your RIGHT CHANNEL loudspeaker, and the LEFT CHANNEL OUTPUTS on the ENCORE areconnected to your LEFT CHANNEL loudspeaker.
Connecting a power amplifier (For M6 Encore Connect, optional for M6 Encore 225 and M8 ENCORE 500)¶
The PRE OUTPUT RCA sockets on the M6 Encore Connect, M6 Encore 225 and M8 Encore 500 are for connecting external power amplifier(s).
The M6 Encore Connect has PRE OUTPUTs only and requires an external power amplifier (or pair thereof, if using “monoblocks”), to drive speakers. The M6 Encore 225 and M8 Encore 500 also have PRE OUTPUTs, in addition to speaker outputs, which may be used for future upgrading or “bi-amping”.
Connect left and right PRE OUTPUT RCA sockets to left and right inputs on power amplifiers.
If using “monoblock” amplifiers simply connect left hand power amplifier input into left hand PRE OUTPUT, right hand amplifier input into right hand PRE OUTPUT.
Note
Please ensure all interconnecting leads used with either the M6 Encore Connect, M6 Encore 225 and M8 Encore 500 are good quality, fully shielded and that the shield is connected to the RCA plugs at both ends.
(Most cables are fully connected, however we have come across some “esoteric” types that caused problems by e.g. deliberately not connecting the shield at one end)
TV, satellite and cable boxes¶
You can use either the coaxial output, or Toslink output on your TV, satellite or cable box to connect to the Encore.
The Encore will only accept and allow audio from these boxes and has no connecting facilities for video.
Games Consoles¶
You can use either the coaxial output, or Toslink output on your games console to connect to the Encore.
The Encore will only accept and allow audio from these boxes and has no connecting facilities for video.
Note
The Encore digital inputs accept 2 channel digital audio only. To use the Encore with multichannel/home theatre sources, it is necessary to disable multichannel features. The source device must therefore have its digital output set up to give “2 channel 16 bit PCM” (or similar) output.Check the devices manual for setup details.
Phones or Tablets¶
You can charge your phone or tablet from the Encore via a USB cable (not supplied).
If your phone/tablet was supplied with a USB charger you can generally use this cable.
You can choose the USB connector on the front panel, or any of the 3 USB ‘A’ inputs on the rear panel.
If you choose the USB socket on the front panel, it will charge your device at 1.5A (USB-BC 1.2 compliant), sufficient for most tablets or other large devices.
The rear panel USB sockets (USB 1 and USB 2) can only supply 500mA.This is normally not sufficient to charge a tablet or other large device, but can charge most smaller phones. The rear panel socket USB 3, as well as providing SuperSpeed connection, is able to charge at 1.5A (USB-BC 1.2 compliant)
Note
Ensure all connections have been checked and secured before moving to next step.
Now you can connect your Encore to the mains supply via the IEC connector on the back panel.
